    Top Tip

    Learn the trick tables first: multiplying by 2 is doubling, by 5 always ends in 0 or 5, and by 10 just adds a zero. The rest become much easier once you know these.

    Who Should Play This?

    Multiplication games are most valuable for children in Grades 2-5 (ages 7-11). Grade 2 children typically learn the 2, 5, and 10 times tables. Grade 3 extends to 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9 times tables. Grades 4-5 focus on fluency and extension. Adults revisiting maths will also benefit from the Medium and Hard difficulty levels.

    Tips for Parents and Teachers

    • Teach tables in a strategic order: 2s, 5s, 10s first — then 4s, 3s — then 6s, 7s, 8s, 9s
    • Point out that learning one table means learning two: 3×7=21 and 7×3=21 are the same fact
    • Use skip counting while doing ordinary activities: count by 3s while walking, by 7s while climbing stairs
    • Once your child knows a table, connect it to division: 'If 4×6=24, then 24÷6=4'

    Common Difficulties

    The 6, 7, and 8 times tables are the hardest because they share no obvious patterns. The 9 times table is easier than it looks: the digits of any multiple of 9 always add up to 9 (9, 18, 27, 36...), and the tens digit is always one less than the number you are multiplying by. For 7×8=56, there are no shortcuts — this fact simply needs to be practised until automatic.
