    Skills Practised

    • Historical knowledge
    • Chronological thinking
    • Cause and effect reasoning
    • Understanding of cultures
    • Critical analysis

    How to Play

Choose your level and answer 10 history questions from four choices. After every answer you will see a fact that adds context to the event or person. Think carefully — some questions have two options that seem similar.

    Top Tip

History questions often have answers that sound very plausible but are slightly wrong. Read all four options before choosing. Ask yourself "does this make sense given what I know about the time period?"

    In the real world

History teaches us where we came from and why the world works as it does. Children who understand history are more empathetic — they understand that people in other times and places faced genuine challenges. Historical thinking also builds critical skills: evaluating sources, understanding bias, and recognising cause and effect across long time periods.

    Who Should Play This?

Easy is for ages 5-8, covering familiar historical figures and accessible events. Medium suits ages 8-11 with more complex events and global history. Hard is pitched at ages 11-14, appropriate for middle school history. Teen/Advanced covers historiography and complex causation suitable for ages 14-17 and GCSE/IB History.

    Tips for Parents and Teachers

    • Visit local museums, historic sites, and monuments to make history tangible and memorable
    • Connect history to family stories — asking grandparents about their memories brings history to life
    • Read historical fiction together; good historical novels embed facts within engaging stories
    • Encourage your child to ask "why?" not just "what?" — the causes and consequences matter more than dates

    Common Difficulties

Students often struggle with chronology — placing events in the right order and understanding what came before or after. Using timelines, even hand-drawn ones, helps enormously. Another common difficulty is understanding historical context: why did people in the past think and act differently from us? Remind children that people in the past had different information, beliefs, and technology.
